What's the show about?

From the creators of cult cartoon South Park (Trey Parker and Matt Stone) and the co-creator of hilarious Muppet-inspired musical Avenue Q (Robert Lopez) comes this phenomenal new musical based on the exploits of two Mormon missionaries who are sent to Uganda to convert the native population. With explicit lyrics galore and some of the dirtiest jokes ever written, the creators sure know how to get an audience crying with laughter. When the show opened on Broadway back in March 2011, it won nine Tony Awards, including Best New Musical, and received massive critical acclaim. When the cast recording was released into the US charts in May 2011, it reached number three on the Billboard Charts, making it the highest charting Broadway album in over four decades!

What's the story?

Two young Mormon missionaries from Salt Lake City, Utah, Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, are sent to Uganda to spread the word of the Book of Mormon, but the beautiful Lion King version of Africa that they were expecting is not what they find. A maniacal despot general is terrorizing the village. The two Mormon friends must first find their own faith before they can convert others. A hilarious musical comedy that sends up the musical genre with wit and charm, The Book of Mormon is the new musical for a new generation of theatergoers.

Who is it for? Should I see it?

The Book of Mormon is not for the easily offended, due to the very strong language and adult themes. Fans of Parker and Stone’s work will be in comic heaven, as will anyone who enjoys subversive and satirical comedy. The strong writing and brilliant choreography also makes this a must see for musical theatre fans.
