What's the show about?

With legendary director Richard Eyre at the helm, Stephen Ward will reunite lyricist Don Black with Lloyd Webber after their last Tony award-winning collaboration on Sunset Boulevard. The show focuses on the real victim of the infamous Profumo Affair, society osteopath Stephen Ward and his entrapment at the center of a scandal that rocked 1960’s London establishment right to its very core.
By no means a hero, Ward was a reluctant martyr, thanks to an unholy alliance between press and police of a kind we can all too readily recognise today; inadvertently. His tragic fate heralded the revolution of manners that broke the stuffy morals off the 50s and paved the way for the free-loving liberal world of the 60s. With book by playwright Christopher Hampton, designs by Rob Howell and choreography by Stephen Mear, Stephen Ward will ruffle some feathers and bring to light some dark truths...

Profumo’s subsequent relationship with Keeler and his false statement to the House of Commons leads to a show trial with Ward at the centre and pushes the latter over the edge...
