What's the show about?

Adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 novel by legendary adventure-writer John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock, The 39 Steps is a re-imagined comedy version of Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller. This spoof on melodrama also sends up ‘bad’ theatre to brilliant effect. With a cast made up of just four actors that fearlessly play hundreds of characters in just over a hundred minutes, this is a fast-paced comedy that is not to be missed!

What's the story?

This ‘ripping yarn’ follows square-jawed and overly well-spoken Richard Hannay as he discovers a murder in his flat in Portland Place, London. From one ridiculous plot twist to the next, Hannay finds himself caught up in a spy plot that takes him to the Highlands of Scotland to foil an evil German spy and clear his name. After several hair-raising escapes and a few near misses, the story become more and more ridiculous until the climatic twist that takes place on stage at the London Palladium!

The 39 Steps is an evening of sublime ridiculousness that won’t fail to put a smile on your face. Fans of the original story with appreciate the parody and hits to 30’s crime thriller genre.
