What's the show about?

Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West) that re-imagined the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked is jam-packed with thrilling technical wizardry, dazzling costumes, an ingenious and witty story and show-stopping songs. Wicked has always been an audience favourite, having won a string of awards such as the 2010 Laurence Olivier Award for Most Popular Show and the 2010-11 Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Show.

What's the story?

Wicked tells the incredible untold tale of an unlikely but profound friendship between two girls who first meet as sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in the land of Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Elpheba, the Wicked Witch of the West. The thrilling narrative exposes to us the hidden story behind The Wizard of Oz as we know it. It is a tale of prejudice, friendship and reconciliation that appeals to young and old alike. The iconic songs by multi-Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz, such as ‘Defying Gravity’ and ‘The Wizard and I’ all combine to make Wicked an unforgettable and enchanting experience that is not to be missed.

Who is it for? Should I see it?

Wicked is famous for being the musical for those who don’t like musicals, what with its subversive and witty storyline that has a tongue planted firmly in its cheek. However, it is also great for those who like big, spectacle-driven musicals, as it boasts huge and elaborate sets and costumes with special effects every couple of minutes. Wicked is recommended for children aged eight and up. Children under four will not be admitted.
