What's the show about?

A lively and exuberant mixture of music, dance, puppetry and awe-inspiring set designs, Wind in the Willows promises to be a magical treat for all the family. Based on Kenneth Grahame’s cherished children’s book, all the animals of the famous riverbank are brought to life before your very eyes. Director Will Tuckett's colourful and witty re-creation enjoyed four highly successful runs in the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House and now a whole new generation of fans will have the chance to see this thrilling production!

What's the story?

Wind in the Willows follows the heart-warming tale of the wild Toad and his long-suffering friends, the learned Badger, the suave Ratty and the timid Mole. Toad is totally out of control, spending his inherited family fortune on all manner of excessive pleasure-seeking activities. The final straw comes when Toad is caught stealing a motorcar, and despite Ratty, Mole and Badger’s best efforts, is sent down for years of imprisonment. Now that Toad is out of the picture, the dastardly Weasels move into his large family home, Toad Hall. Now it’s up to the band of friends to rescue Toad and take back Toad Hall!

Who is it for? Should I see it?

Fans of ballet and modern dance will appreciate the inventive choreography and clever staging of the well-loved family classic. Kenneth Grahame’s story is one of the best-known modern children’s tales and will have young and old alike entertained throughout – knowing the story doesn’t impede the enjoyment of this imaginative telling. Any admirers of the composer George Butterworth will especially like Martin Ward’s score that draws its inspiration from Butterworth’s music. Please note that Wind in the Willows is not suitable for those less than five years old.
