Disabled Discounts
By law, every theatre must provide access for disabled patrons. They always set aside a certain amount of seats per performance that are wheelchair-accessible and some theatres allow a carer to go for free. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to access schemes for audience members with disabilities.
There are also scheduled audio-described performances for the visual impaired, captioned and signed performances for the deaf or hard of hearing and relaxed performances for autistic patrons. The Society of London Theatre runs all these schemas and many are offered at a discounted rate. Visit the SOLT website for up-to-date information – www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/access. Alternatively, they publish an access guide three times a year that features all listings for access performances and is also available in large print, Braille, audio tape and CD.
