What's the show about?

Based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel following the plight of one man as he struggles to escape evil, the legendary production also inspired the 2012 Oscar-winning film of the same name, starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe. It features the songs ‘I Dreamed A Dream’, ‘Bring Him Home’, ‘One Day More’, ‘On My Own’ and ‘Do You Hear The People Sing?’ – All now truly iconic songs that have been covered by artists the world over. The soaring score and deeply moving story of Les Misérables has made the show the world’s best loved musical.

What's the story?

Set against the bleak and forbidding backdrop of 19th century France during the height of the French Revolution, Les Misérables’ riveting story crosses decades as we follow ex-convict Jean Valjean as he is relentlessly hunted by a ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s young daughter, Cosette, both their lives change forever, as passion, broken dreams, colorful characters and fate cross them at every turn.

Who is it for? Should I see it?

This classical musical is often seen as the step down from an opera, as the whole show is ‘sung through’. However, the catchy music and engaging story make the musical entirely accessible to any age. From moments of high drama and fights of passion to slapstick comedy and funny characters – Les Misérables has something for everyone. The production is recommended for children aged seven and up, due to the subject matter and length of the show. Children under the age of five years will not be admitted.
